My five predictions for the Masters today

Here in Augusta this place is already vibing for an unforgettable Sunday at the Masters. Tiger goes off at 3:30 p.m, followed by Phil and Lee Westwood at 3:40 p.m.

Here's five things I think will happen.

1. Sockless Fred Couples will go 2-under over the front 9 and then fade away. But what a tournament for the 50-year-old.

2. Lee Westwood will shoot 69 breaking 70 all four days. But he won't win at 15 under par.

3. Tiger Woods will draw the largest crowd possible over the course, get to 3-under during the middle of the road, then stop making birdies. He won't win but as any golfer gone through more in a week than Tiger did this week?

4. They don't call the people attending this event fans, they are called patrons. Anyway, the patrons will have a day to remember and anybody buying that pass off ebay for $700 Sunday morning will get their money worth.

5. It's Phil's moment in the sun. Phil Mickleson will have to shoot 67 today and get to 16 under to win this thing. He will. Add another chapter to the Phil-Tiger rivalry. Phil will be Tiger's party pooper today. Because this Masters has been a Tiger party all week.

Saturday at the Masters

Listen people.
You have to experience this Masters thing at least once. You will not believe the volume of those roars I heard today unless you are here in person.
I don't care if you hate golf. This is a sporting event like no other.
When Phil Mickelson made back-to-back eagles today, I thought I was in Georgia earthquake. Unreal.
By the way, I talked to 50-year-old Fred Couples and this guy has some serious pain going on in his back. But he can crush a golf ball and how cool for the AARP card people to have somebody to root for at this thing.
Couples said look for Mickelson to win it, even though he said Lee Westwood is a phenomenal golfer.
By the way, watched Tiger Woods a few holes. He's slipping. Mark my words.

Palmer on the bubble

Just got off the Augusta National course after following Ryan Palmer for 18 holes. He struggled with the putter and ended up shooting a five over 77.

What that means is he will have to wait and see what happens on the cut. The projected cut at this moment is at four over par. But the way the wind blows in the afternoon here he's in pretty good shape to be one of the 44 to advance to play Saturday and Sunday.

And don't forget this little item. If Palmer is within 10 strokes of the leader after Friday's round, he will also make the cut.

What a good guy, though, He spent time after the round talking to yours truly for a few minutes before heading to the player's clubhouse.

As soon as I know if he made the cut, I will blog it, tweet it and get it all posted on amarillo.com.

Friday morning in Augusta

Hey, just watched Ryan Palmer on the practice tee and he was crushing it!
Palmer tees off at 8:02 a.m. and I will walk the 18 holes with him. The dude is calm for being at the Masters.
He's tied for 32 with opening day par round and if he can shoot par or better look for him to be playing over the weekend.
I'll give you an update when I get off the course later today.

Thursday morning at the Masters

Finally the Masters tournament starts today and I must say there is a different feel around this legendary place. The golfers intensity level has totally changed and everything is all business.

Not that you care, but I did arrive by 7 a.m. today and grabbed a spot to watch Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus hit their ceremonial drives to kick this baby off. Nicklaus held a press conference and brought up a time he and Arnold played in Seagraves, Tx.

Good ol' West Texas is everywhere.

I will follow Amarillo native Ryan Palmer for 18 holes today beginning at 11:08 a.m. He is calm and really confident in his game right now. If avoids the big blow up on a hole, look for the Amarillo High graduate to make some noise. None of the local or national media here are giving him a chance.

I will hustle back and tweet and blog from the media center after his round. You can't bring phones, backpacks or cameras on the course. Security is tight here.

Morning at the Masters on Wednesday

Our Amarillo guy Ryan Palmer will play his final practice round at noon. He's going to play nine holes. From my view Ryan is looking calm out on the course and likes the way he is hitting it.

Let me say this right now about Ryan.

He is a such a nice guy to the fans signing autographs and taking photos after his round. Not very many of the other pros come even close to acting this way.

Amarillo should be proud he represents them.

On a selfish note, he has bent over backwards to help me out with interviews. He even allowed me into the players clubhouse for a short sit down interview.

How cool is that?

Palmer and Tiger tee times at The Masters

The tee times for Amarillo's Ryan Palmer and golf god Tiger Woods have been posted. Palmer will tee off at 11:08 a.m. on Thursday with former Masters champion Larry Mize and Chris Wood.

Tiger goes off at 1:42 p.m. and is paired with Matt Kucher and K.J. Choi.

How would you handle being paired with Tiger?
